Optimistic in the Lebanese situation and the future of the eldest civilization. Happy and his Asian smile does not leave his eyes. Impressed with the performance of President Suleiman. With this description Ambassador Hapsoro expresses his amazement in the new Lebanese president a mix of “energy, exemplary and leadership” and he is the fortune of the country. Monday Morning, Issue No. 1825, December 17, 2007
Indonesian Ambassador Bagas Hapsoro has expressed his certainty that Lebanon can resolve its current crisis. The international community has been keen to see peace and stability of Lebanon fully restored as soon as possible, he told us. I am pleased to see that the government of Lebanon and all parties concerned in the country have redoubled their efforts to promote political dialogue and national reconciliation. I have every confidence that the Lebanese people, together with their political leaders, can overcome the present problem. Noting that Indonesia and Lebanon are both pluralistic societies, he stressed the importance of dialogue. ?Indonesia has something that it can offer. Indonesia is now a country of dialogue. We have been able to reduce many conflicts through dialogue and cooperation rather than through violence and armed conflict. Dialogue among religious communities is a revered tradition, for we are mindful that we are a nation of many faiths and ethnic cultures. We realize that we can keep our society intact only through the sort of mutual understanding and appreciation that is promoted through sincere dialogue.
How would you describe relations between Lebanon and Indonesia, and between Indonesia and the wider Arab world? Relations between Indonesia and Lebanon are excellent and are indeed at their best. This is because our relations are based on mutual respect and solidarity. It also applies in the bigger context, between the Arab world and Indonesia. Lebanon and other Arab countries were the earliest countries that recognized our independence.
